So, you just signed up on a plan to go with SHAW HD TV, Telephone Service, and Extreme Internet, you have the new, well maybe not “new” Cisco DPC3825 Modem and you have your own router. You ask yourself, how do I set this device to bridged(transparent mode). Well that’s a slightly loaded question. If you are currently on the Extreme Internet plan, then they will not enable bridged mode. Upgrade to the Broadband 50, and you are good to go. Funny thing is, I am on hold with a SHAW rep as I type this blog. I think I can coo them into upgrading my Internet while limiting my phone service (who cares, i haven’t had a home phone for 8 years!) and possibly changing… nope wait… doesn’t look like they can… but the tech mentioned I would need the new Broadband 50 modem, which is the DP3825, which I have… but it seems that its a “service” limitation and you need to have the 50Mbit service to be able to enable bridged mode. So here I sit waiting for the tech, she is going to speak with customer service and see if I can upgrade my plan. Did I mention my plan was 28$ a month for a year? That is the issue I face right now, can they change my plan? Not sure. Either way, I hope that my footwork saves you, my readers, time. Good Luck!

**Update** 1 hour Later

SHAW Called back, and since I don’t want to change this awesome package I am on, the Manager said I can swap out, at my convenience, my DOCSYS 3 modem for the DOCSYS 2 Modem, which is straight passthrough, no WIFI etc. I say thank you very much.
